On Friday, March 6, Bedford County Schools will participate in an emergency preparedness drill in collaboration with local law enforcement, first responders, and Homeland Security.

On Friday, March 6, 2026, Bedford County Schools, in collaboration with local
law enforcement, first responders and Homeland Security, will participate in a full-scale emergency preparedness drill to practice response protocols in the event of a real emergency.
No students will be in school on this day as it is a scheduled staff development day.
This drill is part of the district’s ongoing commitment to school safety and preparedness. Community members should be aware that emergency personnel and vehicles may be present near school campuses, but this is only a drill.
“We take safety seriously, and this drill will allow us to work alongside our emergency partners to strengthen our response plans,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tammy Garrett. “We appreciate the community’s support and cooperation.”
Garrett also asks parents and caregivers to please note that in a real emergency, there will not be time to update a child’s authorized pickup arrangements. She asks that parents please make sure your child’s Skyward information is up to date with approved pickup contacts now to avoid any delays. Parents can do this by calling the front office of the child’s school.
“In a real emergency, parents also need a backup plan for who is authorized to pick up their child because you never know where you might be in the event of an emergency,” emphasized Garrett. “Your child’s safety comes first. Thank you for making sure this information is updated and backup plans are in place to make reunification as smooth as possible.”
