Students participating in the Bedford County Schools Summer Learning Camp recently wrapped up a day of hands-on learning that highlighted literacy, creativity, innovation and school spirit.
In English Language Arts classes led by Mrs. Lemmons, students read Ghost by Jason Reynolds, exploring literary elements while discussing the novel’s central message about perseverance and personal growth. Students reflected on the theme, “You can’t run away from who you are, but what you can do is run toward who you want to be,” using the story to spark meaningful classroom conversations.
The camp also featured student-created American-themed collages from Mrs. Lemmons’ classes, giving students an opportunity to express their creativity through art while connecting with classroom lessons.
Meanwhile, students in Mrs. Banks’ STEAM class showcased their problem-solving skills by designing invention posters and innovative projects. The displays highlighted creative thinking and encouraged students to apply science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics concepts in unique ways.
Adding to the excitement, students and staff participated in a “Decades Day,” dressing up as their favorite American decade. The themed event brought extra fun and school spirit to the Summer Learning Camp while celebrating creativity both inside and outside the classroom.
Bedford County Schools says activities like these help keep students engaged throughout the summer by combining academics with interactive, hands-on learning experiences.
