On Friday, March 6, the City of Manchester announced that Former Manchester Fire Department Chief Sam Miller had passed away.
A Facebook post made by Manchester Mayor Joey Hobbs is copied below.
“It is with deep sadness that the City of Manchester announces the passing of former Fire Chief J. Sam Miller, who passed away this morning.
“Chief Miller faithfully served as Fire Chief of the Manchester Fire Department from 1991 until his retirement in 2010, dedicating nearly two decades to leading the department and protecting the citizens of our community. During his tenure, he helped guide the department through years of growth and modernization while building a legacy of professionalism, leadership, and service.
“Chief Miller devoted his life to serving others. Prior to his distinguished fire service career, he proudly served his country as a United States Marine, embodying the values of honor, courage, and commitment that he carried with him throughout his life.
“Throughout his career, Chief Miller was known for his steady leadership, his dedication to the fire service, and his commitment to the firefighters he mentored and led. His influence helped shape the Manchester Fire Department into the organization it is today.
“Beyond his professional accomplishments, Chief Miller was respected throughout the community as a man of integrity, faith, and service. His lifelong dedication to both country and community leaves a lasting legacy that will not be forgotten.
“The thoughts and prayers of the City of Manchester and the entire community are with the Miller family, his friends, and the many firefighters whose lives he impacted.
“Funeral arrangements will be announced as they become available.”
