Donald Robert Hockett, better known as Don, passed from this life on August 14, 2026, at the age of 81 surrounded by family and friends at his home.
A native of Beechgrove, TN, he is the son of the late John Robert and Bettie Mae (Alford) Hockett. Don was a lifetime farmer and logger. He spent his life working the land, cows, and timber. However, his true passion was his bird dogs. He loved to watch them hunt and find birds. He enjoyed the sport plus the many friendships he made along the way hunting and attending field trials. His favorite and best dogs always seemed to be named Joe or John.
Don is survived by his wife of 59 years Elaine (James) Hockett, daughter Donna Welch (Chris), son James Hockett (Ginger), daughter Melissa Hockett; sisters Johnnie Mae Anderson, Patsy Belcher, and June Duke (Kenneth); his grandchildren that he loved dearly: Christen Hancock (Baylor), Kathryn Welch (Cade), Ethan Welch (Riley), Sadie Hockett and Sam Hockett. Plus, his first great grandchild Ellie Mae Hancock.
Visitation for Don will be held Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Manchester Funeral Home from 4pm to 8pm. Funeral Services will be held the following day on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, beginning at 1pm with a visitation prior from 11am to 1pm. In Lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to St. Judes Children’s Hospital and/or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
