A former court clerk for the Shelbyville Municipal Court was arrested after being indicted Monday charges including theft and evidence tampering.
Shelbyville Police Department said it identified financial discrepancies during an internal review in September 2025, sparking an immediate internal investigation. The Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury also conducted an investigation.
During the internal investigation, Lillia Torres was placed on administrative leave. She later resigned her position.
Bedford County grand jury returned a four-count indictment against Torres on Monday, August 17th for theft of property (over $10,000 but under $60,000), official misconduct, destruction of and tampering with government records, and tampering with evidence.
