Norma Jean Dean Swiger of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, passed away at the age of 89 on June 6, 2026. She was born on February 8, 1937, in Coffee County, Tennessee. She graduated from Central High School in 1955, and from Baroness Erlanger Hospital in 1958 with a nursing degree. She married the love of her life, Kermit A. Swiger, on January 23, 1958. She worked as a registered nurse for 37 years primarily with the State of Tennessee as a public health nurse with a specialty in pediatrics. She attended World Outreach Church and loved participating in her small groups/bible studies. She was known for her genuine relationship with Jesus Christ her Lord. An avid traveler, she loved experiencing new cultures and cuisines, but she was equally content at home, spending cherished hours sewing in her creative space. She dearly loved and enjoyed spending time with all her family, but especially her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit A. Swiger; her parents, Robert L. Dean and Ruby P. Reynolds Dean; her brother, Lee Roy Dean (Aki Dean); her brother-in-law, William Golden; and her beloved sons, David B. Swiger and Robert L. Swiger.
She is survived by her daughter, Tamela S. Dozier (Steven W. Dozier); her daughter in law, Teresa Reed Swiger; and her four grandchildren, Rebecca Swiger Phillips (Mickey), Derek Swiger (Rebecca), Racheal Swiger Cox, and Alyssa Dozier Butler (Andrew). She is also survived by her 10 wonderful great grandchildren, Briana, Nathaniel, Elijah, Zechariah, Allison, William, Matthew, Julian, Anthony, and Jensen.
Visitation will be held at Manchester Funeral Home on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to Bethlehem Baptist Church located on 3371 Winchester Hwy, Hillsboro, TN 37342 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM for funeral services beginning at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.
