Tennessee Tech University (TTU) reached its highest enrollment in a decade thanks to record high freshman retention rates and a large incoming class, according to 2025 census data.
This semester, TTU enrolled 10,701 students. More than 3,000 of those are new students, and 2,028 of those are first-time freshmen. This is the fourth largest freshman class in the school’s history. TTU’s freshman retention rate was 80.1 percent, which boosted its returning student population.
“Tennessee Tech continues to demonstrate what is possible when a university truly puts students first,” TTU President Phil Oldham said.
Oldham credited TTU’s faculty, staff, academic programs, and the Cookeville community with TTU’s success.
The incoming freshman class has an average high school GPA of 3.72 and a median 24.2 ACT score. More than one third of the incoming freshmen maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout high school.
