Legend Tipps, a student at Tullahoma High School, received the Silver Key Award from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for his work “Pantagruel’s Drolatic Dream of Candy.”
As the Silver Key winner, Tipps is the runner up in the award program’s Middle Tennessee region. Tipps’ art will be on display at the Middle Tennessee Scholastic Art Exhibition at Cheekwood Estate & Gardens in Nashville. The exhibit will be open from Feb. 7 until March 8.

Tullahoma High School sophomore Legend Tipps was notified recently that he is a recipient of the Silver Key Award from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
“I was ecstatic to learn of Legend’s award,” said Emily May Ragland, who is a THS visual arts teacher. “Knowing his work, I was confident that he would be a contender. Legend is a very talented artist. I noticed it right away when I had him as a student last year. He would fill up sketchbooks with his own work as well as complete the classroom assignments. I see a very bright future in the arts for him.”
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. The Alliance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to identify U.S. and Canadian students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. In 2025, nearly 110,000 students across the United States and Canada entered more than 310,000 original works in 28 categories.
Tipps received the Silver Key Award for his drawing titled “Pantagruel’s Drolatic Dream of Candy.”
According to Tipps, his artwork is based on the original idea behind the game Candy Land. He expanded on that narrative and added his own twist, including a touch of the eerie with a bit of whimsy.
While receiving the Silver Key Award, Tipps will also have his artwork on display at the Middle Tennessee Scholastic Art Exhibition at Cheekwood Estate & Gardens in Nashville. The exhibit opens with a reception on Feb. 7, and art will be featured until March 8.
