FROM WGNS RADIO- Just 30 minutes north of Murfreesboro, an investigation has led to the arrest of a woman who is charged with first-degree murder in connection with a deadly domestic incident earlier this month at Cherokee Marina in Lebanon.
The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office said detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division took Jeaneen Boyas into custody Thursday, Aug. 20, following an investigation into the incident. According to the sheriff’s office, the incident that led to the arrest of the 55-year-old woman was connected to the death of Robert Mallen.
During the preliminary stages of the investigation, reports indicate that Mallen likely died from a gunshot wound Friday, Aug. 14, in the area of Cherokee Marina in Lebanon, off Highway 109. Mallen was 64 years old.
Boyas was taken into custody more than 80 miles southeast of the marina in Coffee County, with assistance from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office and the Tullahoma Police Department. She was subsequently booked into the Wilson County Jail on a $500,000 bond. As of Friday night, Aug. 21, Boyas remained in jail, unable to post bond.
Wilson County Sheriff Robert Bryan praised investigators and the assisting agencies for their work in the case.
“Our detectives have worked diligently throughout this investigation, and I am grateful for their commitment and attention to detail. I also want to thank the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office and Tullahoma Police Department for their assistance. Cooperation between law enforcement agencies is extremely important, and we appreciate their willingness to assist us in bringing this individual into custody.”
The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains active. Authorities said no additional information will be released at this time.
The first-degree murder charge is an allegation, and Boyas is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
