On Friday, March 20, the Tullahoma Fire Department (TFD) made a Facebook post asking the Tullahoma community to check their smoke alarms.
The request was prompted by the TFD’s response to four structure fires over four days. TFD said early warning is critical to preventing even greater fire damage and asked the community to make sure their smoke alarms have working batteries, test each alarm monthly, and replace any alarm that is over 10 years old.
TFD can supply free smoke alarms to Tullahoma residents and offers free installation assistance. Additionally, Tullahoma residents with heat or gas appliances are eligible to receive free carbon monoxide alarms.

It has been a busy few days for our crews. We have responded to 4 structure fires in the past four days. Thankfully, quick action and strong teamwork helped prevent even greater losses. Still, this is a powerful reminder of how quickly fire can spread and how critical early warning is.
Please take a moment today to check your smoke alarms:
- Make sure each alarm has working batteries
- Test each alarm monthly
- Replace any alarm that is more than 10 years old
